Hello and welcome,
If you struggle with out of control sugar binges or sugar addiction, willpower alone is NOT enough to stop. Neither is eating sugar every now and then – it triggers your sugar cravings and sends you right back to your fix. To find healing, you may have to do what I did: you may need to stop eating sugar for good.
You are not looking for a quick fix, or to eat sugar in moderation. You are looking to kick sugar out of your life – yes, even if this thought absolutely terrifies you. (You’re not alone. We all feel that fear.)
You may be among the tens of thousands who’ve read my ebook, Overcoming Sugar Addiction, and recognize yourself in my story. I hope you feel empowered knowing how I gave up sugar – and that it’s even possible. You may want to take the leap and abstain from sugar.
Great. But how? And how do you do this for life? For good?
- The key to healing your sugar addiction for good, and eliminating all those cravings and bingeing, is to make this a lifestyle change. You need to stick to a sugar free diet longterm. This heals your physical dependency on sugar. But you also need to heal your emotional dependency on sugar. You need to find alternate ways of soothing yourself without turning to food.
Otherwise, when life gets stressful, or when you go through a challenging time, you will go back to sugar. Or you’ll overeat other foods besides sugar. This was true in my life. I spent 10 years vacillating between sugar bingeing and sugar abstinence until I found lasting abstinence. I couldn’t understand why I kept going back to sugar, especially when I knew better. I didn’t know that I hadn’t changed the underlying pattern in my brain of turning to food to cope. It wasn’t until I healed this piece that I finally felt free from my sugar addiction.
When you combine sugar abstinence with new patterns of meeting your needs you have the tools to give up sugar for good. You will have both emotional and physical freedom from sugar – what heals sugar addiction at the root. You won’t need or even desire the sugar anymore.
To get this emotional freedom from sugar, you need tools and practices to heal the ingrained patterns of turning to food for comfort. When you create new pathways of soothing yourself without food, you will find lasting abstinence from sugar.
That’s what you’ll learn in this program. You’ll learn:
- mind-body-spirit principles to help you detach from sugar at the root.
- exercises to help you unhook emotionally from sugar.
- tools to create new pathways of coping without sugar.
The result? If you’re anything like me, you’ll feel like a different person. You’ll wake up without feeling remorse for the sugar binge you had the night before. You’ll experience physical and mental healing as your moods, weight and body stabilize. You’ll have more energy. You’ll remove the shame that accompanied every binge.
You’ll also experience emotional freedom. You can get over sugar and get on with your life. All the mental energy you had stored up in your weight, sugar and food? It’s now free to flow towards what is most important to you. You become free and clear to be the woman you want to be – to live your deepest purpose.
In Sisterhood,
Karly Randolph-Pitman
PS. Even more than freedom from sugar, that is my greatest wish for you: to radiantly live your deepest purpose. That’s the essence of the mission behind First Ourselves, and part of the story behind our name. See below for more about me, and lots of FAQ’s from women just like you.

Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: What is the sugar addiction support program, exactly? A: An exclusive area of our website delivers 12 lessons, organized as a 12 week transition period. (And yet you can take as long as you want – you can tailor it to you.) Each week you’ll receive an email prompting you to follow that week’s lesson. There are pages you can print and read off-line if you choose, plus audio files with encouragement and insight. Look forward to personal exercises that will open your eyes to how you think about food and prompt new expectations for yourself. Q: Do I have to give up sugar completely or right away? A: No. You take this at your own pace and decide when you’re ready to make the leap. There is never any pressure or time table of when you “have” to let go of sugar. The program supports and accepts you wherever you are on your journey. You can even do this program first to understand why you are emotionally dependent on sugar and then work on achieving your sugar abstinence. Q: Will you tell me what to eat? A: No. You’ll learn to listen to your body, to understand what foods trigger cravings and compulsive eating and what foods don’t. Listen to what works for me, and others in our Support Forum may share what works for them. But it is an individual process. You can make healthy food choices for your unique lifestyle, body and needs. This is where true power comes from: learning to trust yourself to take excellent care of your body. Q: Does this involve supplements, minerals, or vitamins? A: This is not a source for information about magnesium, chromium, l-glutamine, potassium, peppermint, diphenhydramine hydrochloride, or any of the dozens of other ideas people have about what might help them with sugar. We don’t offer nutritional or medical advice. We do suggest resources where you can find out more information about these helpful tools, as supplements can be very helpful in getting off sugar. Q: Can I participate while doing Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Atkins, or another diet? A: Yes. We will explore how you use food to meet your emotional, physical and spiritual needs and then give you tools to find healthy alternatives. These self-care skills will help you stay committed to any diet or lifestyle change. They compliment each other. That being said, many women who commit to reducing or eliminating their sugar consumption find greater success in their weight loss efforts. Q: Can I do this program while seeing a therapist or another counselor? A: Yes. Look at this as one piece of your self-care puzzle, one of the many ways that you love and support yourself. It’s all about handling food in a healthy way – a good therapist or counselor will only augment this. Q: How is this different than the Support Forum? A: The Support Forum is included within this program. The forum supplements the insights found in the weekly reading and listening. Ask questions of Karly in the forum. Or ask questions of people aiming to find freedom from sugar addiction just like you. It’s also a place to find support from other women who know just how you feel – a crucial step to change. Q: I’ve tried cutting back on sugar many times. Will I learn anything? A: Knowledge doesn’t always translate into action. Expect stuff you can do each week to start doing and feeling differently, not just thinking about it. While you’ll learn skills to thrive without sugar, one benefit of this program is gaining support from others in the forums. Relax in the understanding of other women who are going through the same thing. Healing from sugar addiction is a process. Having tried to quit before, you’ll understand the challenges in staying off sugar for good. You may be afraid that you’ll revert to old habits. This program can help you overcome that fear and embrace your journey. Q: I’m a beginner. Will this help me? A: Yes. We all start right where we are. Enjoy the loving support from a program that can make the challenge of changing your eating habits an easier task. Q: I’m already sugar free. Will the class help me? A: Yes. Abstinence isn’t enough to stay off sugar for good. We need to uncover why we were using sugar in the first place in order to make this a lifelong practice. We need to heal the emotional craving for sugar as well as the physical craving. I’ll give you tools and support to stay sugar free, to keep your intention in place. Q: Are there any food lists or eating requirements? A: No. We may share meal ideas, recipes, or ways of eating, but you’ll learn how to care for your body rather than following a diet. Q: I’m afraid to give up sugar. A: Everyone is. Fear isn’t a signal to stop, but is a sign that you are moving in the direction that you need to go. Change is scary, especially when sugar has historically met many of your needs. Of course you’re afraid to let go of this crutch without feeling as if you have something else to take its place. We will talk about fear and give you tools to soothe it, as well as self-care alternatives so that you can get the nurturing that you need. Also, you take this course at the pace that feels right for you. When you’re ready to take the training wheels off, you will. Trust your own process. Q: What is Karly’s expertise? A: I’ve been an emotional eater and sugar addict for most of my life. As a child, I ate to comfort myself, even though I wasn’t cognizant of this at the time. My late teens and early 20s were spent in the throes of bulimia, compulsive eating, sugar addiction, and a negative body image. I spent over a decade learning how to be sugar free, how to heal my relationship with food, love my body, and end my compulsive eating. These life lessons are what I share in my class. Having been in your shoes, and having used sugar and food for every conceivable reason, I understand how hard it is to break a food addiction. You can learn from this program how you can overcome it. Q: I need medical support. Do you offer any? A: I am not a medical expert, doctor or nutritionist and this program does not offer medical advice. Consult your doctor, a nutritionist, or other health professional if you have such questions. For example, there are many people who help sugar addicts with balancing their serotonin: this is not covered in this program. Instead, the program may introduce you to further reading or resources. Q: Can you explain the body’s bio-chemistry concerning sugar addiction? A: Medical explanations of the body’s biochemistry is not my area of expertise. The program introduces you to resources (authors, doctors, books, etc.) who have studied the science of sugar addiction and can explain why sugar sensitive individuals (probably you if you’re reading this!) react differently to sugar than “normal” people. This information is very helpful to understanding why you struggle with sugar, and can lead you to release the shame of sugar addiction. You already recognize your problem with sugar and are now looking for action steps to take to heal it. That’s where this program can help. Q: What if I decide that it’s not for me? A: If you decide it’s not for you, you are welcome to pause the program. Maybe you come back to it later and start again. Still not a good match?
